THE KHWAI CONCESSION: “OUR SOURCE OF WATER”

The Khwai Concession, home of Sediba Sa Rona, is where nature takes the lead and adventure is limitless. This diverse landscape features leadwood and fig tree forests, expansive floodplains, winding waterways, and open grasslands, complete with the Khwai River, which flows right in front of the lodge.

Thanks to its prime position, the concession is a key corridor, guiding animals between the Okavango Delta and Moremi Game Reserve—offering exceptional wildlife viewing, including big game such as elephants, buffalo, lions, leopards, and wild dogs.

Ways to explore are as abundant as the landscape.

Morning and afternoon game drives through the Khwai Concession are staples, with occasional walks from the game vehicle (walks depend on environmental conditions vetted by our expert guides).

Experience Khwai by night on a game drive after dark. Night game drives are available on request, either in place of or in addition to afternoon journeys. These depart after dinner.

Mokoro (traditional dugout canoe) expeditions bring guests to the water. These tranquil journeys are dependent on seasonal water levels.

The Khwai River is a vital lifeline and game magnet that forms the natural boundary between the Khwai Concession and the Moremi Game Reserve, providing an essential route for both wildlife and visitors.

Seasonal floods transform the Khwai River and the surrounding wetlands into a vibrant, thriving paradise, drawing large herds of animals to its banks for a drink. Elephants, buffalo, hippos, and crocodiles are frequent visitors, while the river’s edges are home to diverse birdlife, including herons, kingfishers, and the regal African fish eagle.

The Khwai River mirrors its source, the Okavango Delta, featuring deep channels and shallower waterways, perfect for mokoro adventures to see nature’s often- overlooked wonders, from fascinating plants and insects to reptiles, as well as a chance to engage with the sounds, smells, and textures of the environment.

MOREMI GAME RESERVE: A REVERED NEIGHBOUR

Bordering the Khwai Concession is Moremi Game Reserve, one of Botswana’s premier wildlife destinations. Moremi extends the concession’s corridors and supports the movement of large game. This natural link promotes genetic diversity and strengthens ecological balance, making Moremi another essential partner in the Khwai Concession’s abundant wildlife viewing potential.
