A Transformative Journey, Empowering Botswana’s Women Through Travel
Embark on a 10-night adventure that celebrates the incredible strength, resilience, and accomplishments of Botswana’s most inspiring women. This journey invites you to experience the beauty of Botswana through the eyes of its female leaders—safari guides, conservationists, and entrepreneurs who are reshaping the landscape of tourism, conservation, and community development.
Perfect for women-led entrepreneur groups, corporate retreats, or families with young girls looking for inspiration, this trip combines luxury, culture, and philanthropy. But most importantly, it provides an opportunity to directly support the empowerment of Botswana’s future female leaders.
Empowering Women: A Journey of Inspiration & Impact in Botswana
An Itinerary That Reflects New Beginnings: The heart of this journey is about new beginnings—starting fresh, embracing change, and empowering others. Along the way, you’ll meet remarkable women who have forged new paths in male-dominated fields, defied the odds, and now mentor the next generation of leaders. From immersive cultural experiences to exhilarating safaris in some of the most beautiful and untamed corners of the Africa, this is more than a holiday; it’s a transformative journey.
Empowering Women’s Futures
Throughout your journey, you’ll have the chance to engage with female leaders who are creating lasting change in their communities. At Chobe Game Lodge, home to Botswana’s first all-female-led guiding team, you’ll meet trailblazing women who are not only reshaping the tourism industry but also contributing to gender equality within the safari industry.
As Leeng “Lynn” Tebalo, first female guide in the Desert & Delta Safaris bush camps, says, “It’s about more than guiding; it’s about showing the world that women are capable, strong, and just as knowledgeable as men. It’s about changing the narrative and being proud of what we do.”
Inspiring Encounters with Nature and Wildlife
The journey begins with an unforgettable stay at Chobe Game Lodge, where you’ll embark on an electric boat cruise on the Chobe River, home to one of the highest concentrations of elephants in Africa. The region’s wildlife, along with its women leaders, the Chobe Angels, tell a story of strength and survival, much like the female guides who navigate the river and its wildlife with unparalleled expertise.
Lynn shares her story: “I grew up helping my family with the goats, and that’s where I learned about birds and nature. My grandmother didn’t need to teach me about trees; I just knew them because she’d say, ‘Take the road past that tree.’”
From a childhood connection with nature to a fulfilling career as a safari guide, Lyn’ns journey is a testament to the transformative power of following one’s passion. She continues, “I always prove myself, not just as a woman, but as a skilled guide. That’s how I show the world the importance of female leadership in the tourism industry.”
“I’m proud of what I do,” says Lyn, Guide at Savute Safari Lodge. “Driving through thick sand in the Savute Sandridge is no joke, but when I pass a male guide stuck in the sand, it’s a little victory inside. It’s all about proving myself every day.”
In addition to wildlife encounters, you’ll have the opportunity to visit The Children’s Arc orphanage and engage with women who manage this vital community initiative. These experiences will offer insight into the challenges and triumphs of those empowering the next generation.
From Savute to Nxamaseri: Deepening Connections with Botswana’s Women
Your journey continues with a stay at Savute Safari Lodge, where the stunning landscapes of the Savute region provide a backdrop for a deeper understanding of eco-tourism and conservation. Here, you’ll meet Gorata Nyame, the lodge’s inspiring manager. From her humble beginnings as a waitress to becoming a leader in Botswana’s eco-tourism industry, Gorata’s story is one of resilience and determination. Gorata’s path wasn’t an easy one, but she continues to forge a new future for women in tourism.
Savute Safari Lodge will offer you an intimate safari experience, where you can learn first hand how eco-tourism is being used to preserve the environment and empower local communities.
Next, you’ll head to Nxamaseri Island Lodge, a peaceful retreat located in the Okavango Panhandle. This region is known for its cultural heritage, pristine landscapes, and the deep connection of its community to the land. Here, you’ll have the chance to spend time with local women, learning traditional skills like basket weaving and cooking, and gain insight into how they’ve adapted to the changing environment.
Cultural Immersion and Philanthropy: Giving Back
The essence of this journey is not only about personal enrichment but also about giving back. A significant portion of the proceeds from this trip goes towards supporting female-led projects that aim to uplift and empower women in Botswana. Whether through donating to local initiatives or participating in community activities, you’ll be contributing to the empowerment of women in rural and urban settings across the country.
Mentorship is a key theme throughout the trip, especially in Nxamaseri where you’ll have the opportunity to interact with local women who are passionate about teaching young girls. As Lynn points out, “We mentor a lot of young girls, and I love doing that. It’s important for them to see that they can be part of the wildlife industry too. I tell them, ‘This is Botswana, this is our lifestyle, and you can be part of it.’”
The final leg of your journey brings you to Grays Eden, a boutique hotel in Maun, where you’ll reflect on your journey and celebrate the incredible women you’ve met along the way. From guided market tours to experiencing Maun’s vibrant culture, this stop offers a fitting conclusion to a journey about new beginnings.
