Our new Camp Okavango Sleep-Out Deck Experience keeps you close to the water, the land, and the night skies of Botswana’s Okavango Delta.

The Deep Heart of the Delta
Camp Okavango sits on Nxaragha Island, deep within the Okavango Delta, where permanent waters surround the island with a network of deep channels, shallow waterways, floodplains, and lush vegetation. The camp can accommodate just twenty-four guests in twelve safari suites, each with an en-suite bathroom and private viewing deck. One is a family suite comprising two interleading bedrooms. The lodge, much like the Delta itself, is a keeper of stories, culture, and spirit. It’s where the rawness of the wild unfolds gently in our care, connected and uncompromised.
From this island base, the Delta is brought to life through a myriad of activities and the decades-deep knowledge of our remarkable guides. Scheduled morning and afternoon activities include walking safaris across surrounding islands, motorboat excursions into deeper channels, and gentle mokoro journeys through the shallower waterways. Exceptional birding, catch-and-release fishing, and stargazing add to the consistent awe of this year-round water wonderland. For another angle, you can book a *scenic helicopter flight (*surcharges and booking apply).

That Much Closer to Nature
The new Camp Okavango Sleep-Out Deck Experience adds another dimension to the lodge’s diverse daily activities: the opportunity to remain within the wilderness, to feel the pulse of Botswana’s indomitable heart. The overnight adventure begins at the main lodge, from which you head out on a privately guided activity that culminates at the sleep-out site. Sundowners are served on arrival, followed by dinner, which is cooked on, and enjoyed around, the fire. A nightcap and stargazing from the new boma area are a delight before retiring to the elevated sleep-out decks.
Mornings during this experience unfold gently, slowly, allowing you to witness the sun rise over the land. The decks are equipped with a refreshment station for tea and coffee in bed, as well as simple yet sufficient bathroom facilities, which also now feature showers. The experience has been designed to feel intimate without compromising the care and expertise for which Desert & Delta Safaris is known. The sleep-out remains close enough to the main camp for its team to be readily accessible, while offering a genuine sense of remoteness.
The raised decks provide a remarkable vantage point to safely witness wildlife. Elephants may wander by, snacking on trees as they go. Birds sing their dawn chorus, and some may be lucky enough to feel the reverberation of lions roaring somewhere in the distance. After sunrise, you’ll gather once more at the boma for a fire-side breakfast before departing the sleep-out site on another privately guided activity. This adventure ends back at the main lodge, where the Camp Okavango journey continues with equal authenticity, and with the soulful service synonymous with Desert & Delta Safaris.
Botswana’s Most Complete Safari Circuit
Our safari portfolio spans some of Botswana’s most significant wild places, and Camp Okavango offers a particularly immersive expression of our connection to the Delta: a place where water dictates the landscape, wildlife moves with the seasons, and every journey begins and ends on nature’s terms.
Key Sleep-Out Information:
- The Camp Okavango Sleep-Out Deck Experience is seasonally available from 1 April to 31 October to ensure the best possible experience. Advance bookings are encouraged, although our guests already staying at camp may request the experience, subject to availability. All sleep-outs are dependent on favourable weather conditions and incur an additional fee, confirmed at the time of enquiry.
- The experience can be added for any number of nights during a stay at Camp Okavango, though we encourage you to stay for a minimum of three nights, which allows a night beneath the stars, and two more in the main camp, where a water-based journey provides incomparable access to the heart of the Okavango Delta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
- If needed, guests are provided with a small overnight bag to carry essential clothing and toiletries to the sleep-out site. All remaining luggage can be securely stored in your safari suite, which remains reserved and unoccupied throughout your sleep-out experience. A small safe is also available should you wish to secure personal valuables.
